Cat Jay’s Sixth Birthday

Today I turned six. I look at myself in the mirror (What! A cat can’t have any vanity!) and I can hardly remember the little guy I once was. I was always chewing on something back then.

I was always chewing on something, good or bad.

The day after I came to live with mum I chewed and swallowed something I shouldn’t have. Mum immediately picked me up and took me to see the woman who became my vet, Anna.

At that point I still did not have a name and it was while driving to that first visit that mum realized the obvious, that she had to name me Jay after her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. She didn’t want me to be Blue (thanks mum) and so Jay it was. If she had asked me I could have told her my name was Jay.

As an animal I shouldn’t say I like a veterinarian but I LOVE my Anna. She makes me feel really special even if she told mum all those years ago that I was going to be a lot of trouble, whatever that means. I just had a lot of curiosity.

I was very small and Anna said I was malnourished at 1.6 lbs. In a voice that sounded like it was not something good, mum told her I was something called “the runt of the litter”. Apparently at the foster home I wanted to hang out with the humans instead of fighting the other kittens for the available food. Mum promised to fatten me up. I think I’m good now!

I Am No Longer a Runt

Something else exciting happened about a week or so after I found my home. Mum put something on me she called a harness and she attached a leash to it. Then I went out for my first walk. I was so excited I thought I would go crazy. There were so many different scents out there and I even got to run up a tree. During the first three years or so of my life I ran up trees all the time.

I was born with very strong shoulders although I do not run up trees anymore because I am just too big. Mum measured me from my front paws to the back ones and without me even stretching I was 42 inches.

Here I Am On My First Walk.

We moved three times but after a year or so mum found the perfect home for me. It is on the ground level and has many windows with ledges or dressers in front of them to I can look outside. My only problem is that I see many cats running outside on their own and I want to join them. Mum says it is just too dangerous out there for me and she could not live if anything happened to me. Whatever!

I have lived a lot in the six years I have been on this earth and it is only just the beginning. The first night mum brought me home she told me that we had a deal, that we had to grow old together. As long as we are together I am all for it. Here is  link to a video with a few glimpses of the last six years.

Thanks for coming to see me on my Sixth birthday.

Gotta Go Now. Time To Party!

I love hearing the history between you and Jay! I believe we are all connected to our “Spirit Animals” multiple times through out life (God forbid we should only be blessed by just 1 amazing spirit ,I can only believe this is why they have shorter lives, so we can be blessed multiple times if we choose to embrace them) Jay is your true Spirit animal and I love seeing him, hearing about his adventures, and sometimes perils in life. Keep sharing XO,
    M

Thank you for coming by to check out Jay’s blog. You are a wise woman. I agree with you. I think also that we can connect with certain animals in a much deeper way than we connect with humans. I hope there are many more years of fun times I can share with everyone.
